Nearly Real Theatre was born out of the acclaimed SoulO Theatre Festival Totnes that surprised and delighted audiences in the summer of 2013.

We foster the art and craft of solo autobiographical theatre through a range of activities that include education, performance, advocacy and community building.

We provide people—most of them living in or near the Devon town of Totnes—with the skills they need for telling their most meaningful stories.

We create opportunities for them to share these stories, and for audiences to experience the power of solo autobiographical theatre.

We serve as a learning lab for people who want to undertake a transformational journey in which they will explore and re‑imagine the story that colours their lives, confront some of life’s bigger questions, discover their true purpose and find new meaning.

This journey will take them far beyond what they might otherwise achieve through life coaching or by any other means.

Over the course 11 weekly meetings, they explore and reimagine the story by which they live their lives, confront some of life’s bigger questions, discover their true purpose and find new meaning.

These transformational journeys culminate in the annual Nearly Real Theatre Festival at which they perform their re‑authored stories.

We nurture a supportive community of solo autobiographical performers.
